Evaluation Tool

Try out Compass, a free self-evaluation tool for schools and sixth forms in England that gives you an immediate confidential read-out of how your schools career guidance performs against the eight benchmarks. The tool was built by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and the Careers and Enterprise Company to help you celebrate successes and focus resources on the areas of your careers programme that need the most development.

Teach First, NAHT, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and teachers across the UK have helped to design the tool and will continue to advise on its development.

Set up an account or enter your unique login details. These login details will allow you to pause and re-enter the tool if you are unable to complete within a single session.

Answer the questions

Use the PDF version of the Compass questions to assist you in gathering information before you enter your answers into the tool. We would recommend that you set aside approximately 20 minutes to complete all the questions. If necessary, you can save your progress and continue at different times.

Receive your report

After completing the questions, you will receive a confidential report, indicating how matched your school’s career guidance is to the Gatsby Benchmarks. This report will highlight your successes and areas for improvement, helping you to discuss careers provision with parents, colleagues, governors, and Ofsted.
